Detail’s

To call it just a mall would be to call Las Vegas just a desert town. A must-see tourist attraction in its own right, Fashion Outlets also offers unbelievable savings on top-of-the-line and designer merchandise. It’s worth the short ride to save up to 75% off at more than 100 designer outlets all in an enclosed air-conditioned setting. Another great reason to come to Las Vegas.

Review from Tripadvisor.co.uk

I didn’t know what the Mall was called in January so I never wrote a review for this Mall. But I know what it is now after my 2nd trip to Vegas in 3 months!

As I said before, this is my 2nd trip to Vegas in 3 months. In January I shopped at the Premium Outlet in Vegas and the Fashion Outlet in Primm and found better deals in Primm. Well 2 months later we’re back in Vegas since my girlfriend was at Exhibitor 2010.

The same experience as the 1st time, but the deals weren’t as good as back in January. We didn’t have a car this time but we found that it’s only $15 bucks ROUND TRIP to take the shuttle from MGM Grand, and if you’re nice to the clerk she’ll even give you a discount on the bus tickets. We ended up paying $12 dollars each for the bus tickets. However, before buying the tickets, be sure to check out the Fashion Outlets website because they have coupons that could save you an extra few dollars.

The busses run from 9:15am to 6pm, and if I remember correctly they do 4 runs from the MGM Grand with a couple of hours in between each run.

The sales were still pretty good, and it was a good alternative to the Premium Outlet Mall in Vegas, although the selection is not as big. You have your Burberry, Nieman Marcus, Lacoste, Juicy Couture in regards to premium brand names (I think there were a couple more, but there weren’t as big of a brand selection in this mall). This mall is not as big, and we were able to finish shopping in 2 hours, whereas in at the Premium Outlet we shopped for about twice as long!

One thing I can say is to definitely shop at the Premium Outlet first, and then make a trip out to Primm to compare prices because some of the brand stores in Primm were indeed cheaper than the Premium Outlet

Shop’s include:

Introduction

The Volcano at The Mirage is igniting Las Vegas once again.

Since its opening in 1989, the volcano has been one of most popular attractions on the Strip. In 1996, the volcano added new water, lighting and sound effects.

Today, the volcano is looking – and sounding – better than ever thanks to a $25 million redesign, which reopened to the public on Dec. 8, 2008.

WET, the company responsible for The Fountains of Bellagio, led the design team for the volcano. The volcano includes two volcano systems, a lagoon and fire shooters that shoot flame on demand. These massive fireballs are capable of shooting more than 12 feet into the air. It also features waterfalls with surrounding pools including fire and smoke effects.

“The Mirage Volcano is the only complimentary attraction on The Strip that combines fire with music and choreography,” said Scott Sibella, president and COO of the Mirage. “The Mirage Volcano combines the two to create an intense display, both beautiful and thrilling at the same time.”

Thanks to WET’s state- of-the-art computer system, visitors are able to watch the massive fireballs move to the rhythm. “Using our software VirtualWET, I am able to visually compose the activities of the volcano,” Bonnie Thompson, designer and choreographer for WET explained. “That information is then downloaded to our panels that control the fountain and plays according to schedule. Most people don’t realize that we can control the movements of the fire and water to create a unique and one-of-a- kind show.”

Thompson’s vision for the volcano’s fireball choreography comes from her fascination by the overall history of the volcano and the culture surrounding it.

“I was inspired by tribal dance and cultures surrounding volcano activity,” she said. “After visiting with Mickey Hart and Zakir [Hussain] in the recording studio, I gained a true understanding of how I could manipulate the actions of the volcano in accordance with the music.”

One of the most exciting highlights of the volcano is its hypnotic music score. Hart, the legendary Grateful Dead drummer, and Indian music composer Zakir Hussain worked together to create and perform a soundtrack exclusively for the volcano.

During the composing process, the two studied legends, myths and history about volcanoes. As a result, they incorporated instruments from around the world. The musical masterpiece infuses chants, percussion and other tribal elements.

“Zakir and I studied the science of volcanoes,” Hart explained. “We took our time, found out what they should sound like, what they shouldn’t be like, and got the spirit of the volcano.”

For these composers, the importance of music stems from a deeper, sacred level. The Mirage ignites the Strip’s new flame.

“It’s about spirituality,” Hart emphasized. “Volcanoes are scary, but they also appeal to the spirit world. We tried to get that spiritual content to it.”

He continued: “Music is invisible, it’s mysterious and it has innate, inert energies that we have yet to explore. That’s what music does, that’s what it’ll always do.”

In addition to the intense music score, the volcano’s sound recordings come from actual eruptions. The volcano’s state-of-the-art sound sonic sound system allows the audience to actually feel the rumble.

“We have the greatest sound system around this beautiful lagoon,” Hart said. “Without this delivery system, [it] could not have been possible.”

To gain a full appreciation of the volcano’s spectacular sights and sounds, patrons walking by the Mirage on the Las Vegas Strip are in luck.

“The best view of the volcano show is right in front of The Mirage on The Strip,” Sibella advised. “Nothing beats being right there – up close – where you can feel the heat of the fl ames and hear the pulsating soundtrack.”

“You’re in the middle of the volcano without actually getting hurt!” Hart exclaimed. “[It’s] as real as you can be without experiencing the ash.”

For those who arrive early enough to stand in front, the volcano actually gets quite toasty: “The volcano gets hot enough that you can feel the fire on your face,” Thompson said.

Guests staying at The Mirage can experience a top-notch aerial view of the attraction.

“Essentially any of the rooms which face The Strip on the fourteenth floor or higher will have a fabulous birds-eye view of our new attraction,” said Sibella.

Fiery choreography, water and music have never come together like this before.

“This is nature with choreography,” said WET designer Jim Doyle. “It’s going to make you want to dance. You’ll definitely be warm.”

To get married in Las Vegas:

You must present some identification and proof of your age. (A valid passport is acceptable)

You must be over 18 years old. (You can be married if you are 16 or 17 years old only if you are accompanied by at least one of your parents or if you have an official document verifying your parent’s permission.)

If you were previously married and divorced, you indicate the date and place that the final decree is registered.

Both the bride and groom must appear in person at the Marriage License Bureau at 201 East Clark Street downtown. The office is open from 8AM until midnight. A marriage license cost $60.

Once you have the license, any person authorized by the state of Nevada can perform the marriage ceremony. One witness must be present at the ceremony. Most wedding chapels will supply the witness if you have none. Some chapels will even supply an imitation Elvis Presley as your witness

To officially register your marriage in your home country:

When you return home, you will need a copy of your Nevada marriage certificate as proof of your marriage. It can be purchased at the Clark County Recorder’s office for $7.

Some countries require a certified copy of your marriage certificate and an Apostilles. Check with the marriage officials in your own country! Both documents will be available from the Clark County Recorders office for a modest fee.

Places to get Married in Las Vegas:

There are many places to get married in Las Vegas and many types of wedding ceremonies. You can have anything from a short simple civil ceremony to an elaborate, romantic wedding. You can have a themed wedding, an outdoor wedding even a helicopter wedding

A civil ceremony

The simplest way to get married is by having a brief civil ceremony performed by the Las Vegas Marriage Commissioner. It can be completed in the Marriage Commissioner’s Office. It will require only half of an hour and will cost about $50.

Wedding Chapels

The famous wedding chapels are part of the legend of Las Vegas. Years ago, many couples journeyed to Las Vegas to take advantage of the lenient divorce and marriage laws in Nevada. They usually came for a speedy divorce and often for a swift marriage soon afterward. A small industry developed around quick weddings. The more enterprising businesses built small quaint-looking chapels to attract their romantic customers.

Today, some of the old-style wedding chapels still thrive in Las Vegas. You can even find a few of these quaint church-like chapels surrounded by picturesque rose gardens along the Las Vegas strip amongst the casinos, bars and poker palaces.

For a modest price, usually between $200 and $500, you can purchase a wedding package that includes use of the chapel, a wedding ceremony, flowers, music and photography. The more expensive packages include more “extras” like a ride from your hotel in a stretch limo or Elvis Presley as a witness.

The Casino Wedding Chapels

Most of the Grand Casinos of Las Vegas contain at least one wedding chapel. Many of them have a selection of several different chapels in various styles and sizes. Some are very elegant and much more elaborate than the small independent wedding chapels.

The casino wedding packages cost anywhere from $350 up to $3500 and beyond. The packages usually include one or more nights in a “honeymoon suite” at the hotel. They can include photographs, flowers, music, entertainment and even a complete beauty makeover at their spa.

Special Weddings

For a memorable wedding, you can try one of the special wedding services that are offered by wedding consultants in Las Vegas. You can be married in the nearby Red Rocks Park at sunset. You can fly to the Grand Canyon for a wedding on the rim of the canyon or even in the plane as it flies above the canyon. The wedding can even be held in a helicopter as it hovers high above the Las Vegas Strip.

Indoor Skydiving is a safe and addictingly fun way for you to taste the thrill of skydiving without an airplane or parachute. No experience is necessary and just about anyone of any age can participate.

Before your first flight you will attend a brief training class covering the basics of Indoor Skydiving (Bodyflight). After watching a short video your instructor will teach you proper body position and flight technique, the hand signals used in the wind tunnel and safety concerns. Your instructor will then help you suit up in a specialized flight suit, earplugs, goggles and a helmet. Once your equipment is all properly prepared your instructor will lead you into the wind tunnel and provide hands on assistance so your flight is as safe and enjoyable as possible. On your first time your entire experience will take about an hour.

Training classes begin every 30 minutes and registration is first come first served. The best time to fly is always early in the day. Hungry for more wind? New to skydiving and looking to improve your skills? The more you fly the more you will learn about how to control your body in 120 mph of wind. In one weekend you can learn the body control techniques that would take months to learn at a drop zone. Just like any other extreme sport learning to fly takes a lot of practice, the challenge is half the fun. Vegas Indoor Skydiving has served as a valuable training resource for experts and novices since 1982

Introduction

Welcome to the deep blue world of Shark Reef. Here you will come face-to-face with some of the earth’s most fascinating creatures in North America’s only predator-based aquarium and exhibit. See sharks of all kinds, along with sawfish, giant rays, endangered green sea turtles, piranha, moon jellies and the rare golden crocodiles. In all, there are over 2,000 animals in 1.6 million gallons of seawater.

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay is not your typical aquarium. It’s a total sensory experience designed to transport visitors to an undersea ocean of fantastic sights, sounds and encounters. Featuring dangerous and unusual aquatic animals from the world’s tropical waters, Shark Reef Aquarium takes visitors on a journey through an ancient temple slowly being claimed by the sea.

Fourteen breathtaking exhibits are devoted to dangerous aquatic predators. The largest exhibit is the 1.3 million gallon shipwreck where visitors experience an almost 360-degree view, teeming with sharks and fish, through an acrylic tunnel. The Touch Pool is a popular attraction, where guests can touch an ever-changing collection of animals including sharks, rays or horseshoe crabs. More than 2,000 animals are displayed at Shark Reef Aquarium, over 100 different species and featuring 15 species of sharks.

Insanity

This is the newest ride, opening on March 10, 2005. It’s a spinning ride that dangles you over the edge. I admit I was too apprehensive to try it. Maybe it was the screams and the look of sheer terror on the faces of the riders as I watched them from the observation deck, or maybe it’s just that I didn’t care to be dangled a sixth of a mile from the ground that day. Or maybe it’s that a month after the ride opened, two riders were stuck dangling over the edge for an hour and a half when high winds caused the ride to shut itself down.

X Scream

This one is a see-saw thingie that dangles you over the edge. It doesn’t go as far over the edge as Insanity, and you definitely feel more enclosed and grounded, so I imagine it’s not nearly as terrifying. I have to “imagine” because while I’ve ridden X Scream I haven’t tried Insanity yet. Still, it’s pretty scary if you’re scared of heights. One nice touch is that on one of the runs after your cars get to the edge of the platform, the whole arm stutters and drops the angle even more, making you think for a second that the thing broke and you’re about to hurtle towards your death, ha ha. It opened on Halloween 2003. In Nov. 2005 six Japanese tourists were stranded on the ride for an hour and a half when the power went out

Big Shot

This is the one that made the Stratosphere famous. You’re strapped into a chair with your legs dangling, and then they shoot you straight up the tower’s steeple, 160 feet in two seconds, at four G’s. Then they freefall you so you get negative G’s, then shoot you up again, etc. If this ride started at ground level it would be scary, but add to that the fact that you’re a fifth of a mile from the ground and it’s terrifying. As you’re going up you worry that the brakes will fail and you’ll go straight off the steeple and land down the strip at the Sahara. (Notice in the picture that you can see Insanity on the right-hand side.)

Speed

Vegas.com says: “Simply put, Speed – The Ride is the best ride in Las Vegas. Like rocks out of a slingshot, riders catapult from the launch area at 35 mph around the first curve and plummet through a mist-filled tunnel 25-feet below ground. Riders then hurtle to the surface and through a 72-foot loop, accelerate to 70 mph, and speed through the Sahara’s marquee to the top of a 224-foot tower. They then do it all again — backward.

“Speed will have even the most seasoned thrill-riders screaming bloody murder, but that’s half the fun. Although you can see the ride’s first twist, you’ll never know what to expect from that point on. The sprays of mist and vision-impeding safety harnesses also add to the surprise element.

“Be sure to sit up front –it’s definitely worth the wait. You’ll only be on the ride for 45 seconds anyway. Those opting for a shorter line should sit in the second row — when stopped atop the 224-foot tower you’ll see nothing but the blue skies above you. The back row’s a dud.

“So get it all out and scream to your little heart’s content. Speed is short [45 seconds], but definitely sweet. ” — Vegas.com

The indoor gondolas make their way through the Grand Canal Shoppes, beneath bridges and below the quaint shops and cafés that line the canal running through the Grand Canal Shoppes.

The half-mile ride lasts about 14 minutes and is a great way to get a unique view of the shops. Surrounded by a ceiling emulating blue sky as well as architecture inspired by Venice landmarks, a gondola trip down the Grand Canal delivers a unique Vegas experience.

After a trip down the canal, riders return to dry land to explore the different shops and cafés that caught their attention along the way.

Outdoor gondolas take the authenticity of the Venetian gondola ride one step further. Although two minutes shorter at 12 minutes long, the views afforded on the outdoor version more than make up for the shorter ride.

With the warmth of the sun overhead and sparkling water below, passengers glide along a 31,235-square-foot lagoon located at the front of the Venetian resort on the world-famous Strip. Watch out for winds or rain, the outdoor gondolas are subject to closure due to inclement weather.

If you have a chance, get to the canal or lagoon 15 minutes before the gondolas open for business and you may catch the gondoliers as they begin their day with a song.

A couple years ago, two mad-scientist types known as Eepy Bird became an internet sensation by dropping more than 500 Mentos mints into 200 liters of Diet Coke with explosive results. Thanks to a scientific force called nucleation and some careful manipulation, the cola shot in the air like a geyser and danced around in ways resembling the world famous Fountains at Bellagio.

Fountains creator WET Design was so impressed by this hilarious tribute that they brought the creators Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz to their California-based office for a live performance.

“When I first saw it I thought it was just fabulous,” said Mark Fuller, chief executive officer of WET Design. “It’s very flattering.”

Equally as flattering for Fuller is seeing the day-to-day reaction of Vegas visitors as they watch the actual Fountains at Bellagio.

“People laugh and literally cry when they see it,” Fuller said. “I typically stand with my back to the fountains because I enjoy watching the expression of the crowd.”

With several professionally choreographed musical routines and rushing water that soars as high as 460 feet from a total of 1,214 water-emitting devices, the $40-million, 8.5-acre lake is the most ambitious water feature ever created by WET Design. The free show has been celebrated in countless films, television shows, photographs and articles on Las Vegas.

“If you were to fly around the world today there is no other water feature you would see that has the same scope, same spectacle, same emotional impact,” said Fuller. “We were very choreographed and prescriptive about how the water moves and how we tie that with the music. Nonetheless, the moment those water molecules leave those jets and loft themselves into the sky, they’re completely subject to the forces of nature and the whims of the sunshine. Even if you see the same show, you never really see it twice.”

Fuller believes it is this “marriage of the expressions of nature with the hand of man and machinery” that so mesmerizes viewers.

Speaking of marriage, the Fountains at Bellagio is a prime destination for proposals and weddings. Just ask Bill Mayers, assistant manager of operations for the fountains.

“I personally proposed to my wife on the second of February last year to Elton John’s ‘Your Song” on the center outlook,” said Mayers. “I got a resounding, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes’ – that’s five yeses to one question.”

Bellagio also offers a wedding package on the Terrazza di Sogno (Terrace of Dreams), an Italian balcony overlooking the fountains. The water soars to the sky at the moment of the couple’s first kiss.

And there are a lot of drive-by weddings.

“A chapel will put everybody into a limousine and pull up in front of the fountain,” Mayers said. “They’ll throw open the door and the minister will jump out and the groom will jump out and the bride will jump out and they’ll rush to one of the outlooks and do the ceremony right there.”

With its diverse and ever-changing lineup of musical numbers, from show tunes like “One Singular Sensation” to the evocative “Con Te Partiro,” couples don’t necessarily know what song they’re going to get.

“Last Christmas, I saw a couple get married to Madonna singing ‘Santa Baby,’” said Mayers, laughing.

Mayers and a staff of 37 work behind the scenes seven days a week, 365 days a year to maintain the show, which begins every 30 minutes between 3 and 7 p.m., and every 15 minutes until midnight on weekdays (shows begin at noon on weekends and holidays; times may vary due to daylight saving time). Along with cleaning the fountains, the crew works with several different types of shooters, compressors, purification equipment and a fog system that is so intense it could literally blanket Las Vegas Boulevard “and turn Paris (the hotel across the street) into London, in less than five minutes,” said Fuller.

The fountains only use about 10 percent of the water that was used by the Dunes Hotel golf course it replaced. Through an agreement with the Clark County Fire Department, the water can be used at the department’s discretion to fight a nearby fire or for another catastrophic event.

The computerized program that runs the fountain show automatically cancels or scales it down based on weather conditions. But apart from a three-day period in 2004 when the Bellagio had no power and the occasionally prohibitive weather, there have only been a handful of times that the show has not gone on.

One of the windiest nights in the Bellagio’s history took place during the hotel’s black tie opening ceremonies in 1998. Despite the whipping wind, the fountains were run full blast.“
