Tropicana Hotel – Las Vegas

Posted by admin On April - 13 - 2009

HOTEL INFORMATION

The Tropicana Resort is one of the older hotels on the Vegas Strip. Its opening on April 4, 1957 signified the commencement of a new era deluxe resort vacations. Because of its ambience of serenely sophisticated elegance, the Tropicana Resort was described by the Saturday Evening Post as being “Tiffany of the Strip.”

The palatial $15 million 300 room complex became an overnight success. Situated on 17 acres of lawns and gardens, the Tropicana Resort was designed in a “Y” shape for maximum efficiency. The sparkling 60-foot fountain enticed and fascinated every visitor to the hotel. It would later become a major Las Vegas landmark.

In order to assure the ultimate in personalized service, more than one hotel staff member was assigned to each and every quest. Because of this, the most affluent families in society thronged to the Tropicana Casino and Resort. On opening night, the headliner Eddie Fisher entertained about 500 satisfied guests. In 1959, Tropicana Resort entertainment director Lou Walters brought the famed “Follies Bergere” directly from Paris.

The main tower of the Tropicana Casino and Resort is home to the Garden room wings. It was built in 1957. The Paradise Tower, which consists of 21 floors of guestrooms and suites, was built in 1979. It is next to the resort’s Tiffany Theatre, where the well-known Follies Bergere spectacle is now performed. In 1961, the 18-hole Tropicana Golf Course and Country Club was added to the Tropicana Casino and Resort. Then, in 1965, the Blue Room Lounge was introduced. It became the home of such renowned entertainers as Guy Lombardo, Al Hirt, Julie London, Count Basie, Joe Williams, Pete Fountain and Roger Williams.
